Welcome to (SET) Science, Engineering and Technology.

Career Choices

In the last thirty years or so, a whole new range of career choices has opened up to women students. Traditionally scientific and technologically oriented careers were limited to males, from mathematics and physics to biological and health sciences and women were pushed towards the humanities such as arts, history and languages.

Now you will find women in many fields that they would be been excluded from a few short years ago.

As well as the traditional sciences such as biology, chemistry and physics, there are many new areas opening up due to our changing world. Many women now are looking at careers in technology, either as web designers or programmers. The advent of the internet has also opened up careers in IT support and as technical writers.

Another area of interest of many women is the field of environmental sciences. This can range from anything to meteorological and global warming issues through to the effects that our changing environment is having on nature and animals.

The fact that women are now having a much greater impact on science and technology can only be a good thing. The female mind does work differently from that of a male. Not better or worse, just differently, and the ever increasing presence of females gives the sciences a much broader and well-rounded outlook.
