Physcology is a science that deals with the mind and behaviour. Literally meaning study of the soul in ancient Greek, it deals with problems and conditions caused by mental functions in human behaviour. These conditions can lead to psychological problems. The difference between physcology and psychiatry has simply been said that a psychiatrist is a doctor who can write prescriptions, whereas a psychologist cannot! The psychologist deals with issues that have their roots in past behaviour, stress or simply an inability to cope. Physcologists deal with emotional and mental problems rather than physical problems.
Everybody has some sort of psychological problem. These quirks make us who we are! Why should anyone be scared of spiders when a spider does us no harm? A fear of insects, flying, snakes or even buttons, are irrational fears that can all be described as being physcological and which can be cured by therapy. However, some psychological problems can do lasting damage to the sufferer and cause a danger to other people if not dealt with by a trained psychologist. Serious psychological problems such as depression, personality disorders, stress disorders can be dangerous and just because a problem is all in the mind, it does not make it any less debilitating.
There have been many occasions where people suffering from psychological disorders have committed crimes. Psychological problems rarely affect just the sufferer but can often have a detrimental effect on other people.
