As a successful businesswoman, I have noticed the dramatic change in technology over the last twenty years and one of the areas which has had a large impact has been that of mobile technology and remote access. When I first used to travel for business our only communication with the office was via a lengthy and often extremely expensive telephone conversation once a day. This was often a nightmare from countries such as Kyrgyzstan or Kazakhstan due to the poor telephone facilities and time difference. Then when the internet started to become more popular there was the possibility to connect through the laptop to send and receive email, but functionality was still extremely limited and often depended on a dial up connection. However much we complain about Blackberries, they were a real boon when they were introduced as we were then able to check our email very cheaply at any time of the day. Now wireless and remote access technology has changed the life even further of travelling business people all over the world. Not only can we send and receive email quickly and cheaply, but we can also use Citrix or other technologies to connect same-time with almost any office function or programme.
How life has changed so much in so short a time and it leads me to wonder what will be next!
